I can't believe Christmas is already here again. We did christmas with Dave's brother's family and his parents the Sunday before Christmas and it was great. We finally got to meet our sweet niece! We also got to see the kids open their gifts and the pure excitement you see on kids faces during this time of the year, it was just perfect. Christmas day started out just like any normal day. It was hard this year because we were away from my family. I love my husbands job but this is just part of it...not getting to have the busy family holidays I grew up with and so loved. I had Mac-n-cheese on Christmas Eve.....it should have been tamales and cookies! It's funny how what seems so small, is huge when you don't have it!
It was great to be with my husband Christmas afternoon (once he woke up). His parents and younger brother's family came by to visit and do Christmas with us. We got to see our other niece and have her open our gifts with us. We really appreciated them coming up to see us since we were not able to go to the big family gathering due to time conflict with Dave's sleep schedule. It's hard to do activities with people that work a normal 9-5 job with typical weekends off, when your husband works a 10-6am job, sleeps until 4pm and his weekends are Wed/Thurs. His job isn't like most of ours, where we can go with little sleep and be fine. Lack of sleep means lack of attention which could be life or death in his field. I'm not willing to take that chance. This is part of being in a family with a cop though and it's great when family and friends make the effort to include us and work around his schedule. It means the world to us and we are truly blessed.
We got some great gifts this year. My favorite would have to be the new formal coat my wonderful husband got me. Dave's favorite was his new Nook Color.
We are looking forward to this next week with my family coming in for a late christmas and to be with us for the New Years!
